I live in a really small town... 5,000 people.
Since Easter there have been 2 attempted child abductions in my community.
One of them was a student of mine.

The really scary thing... the kids don't even seem fazed by it at all. They're annoyed they can't walk around alone anymore, but not afraid like they should be! No

Oh my, so scary!!!! I hear about this mess all the time in our medium sized city. Even with our homeschooled kids! I hate to freak out my kids, but I am very realistic to them about such things.

wow ladies! sorry to hear this..it's just sad. there are such horrible people!
i tell my kids about how they take you in restroom, in the yard and so forth.....they need to know. these kids that are sheltered in a bubble are the perfect victims. my soon-to-be 17 yr old tells me" i'm not gonna get raped"...well lo and behold i tell him " uh, yeah, men rape boys in bathrooms all the time, don't ever think it can't happen"....they have to be knowledgeable. and the sad thing is he thinks it can't or won't happen. .......if you can get pregnant at 10 then i think my kids need to know before then. my 9 yr old is oblivious about all that, but i tell her in a don't let anyone touch you anywhere.....not anyone. ugh , it sickens me ! i hope the newspaper covered it so it's not all hush hush in your neighborhood/town.

The newspaper covered it, the police walked through our neighborhoods today handing out a sketch and description, and the schools called all the parents (we have an automated phone system that will send messages to everyone at once) and flyers went home with kids today. There's some community meeting on Thursday too. So yeah people know.

This is gonna sound rash, but sometimes I think kids only react to things that are extra-ordinary. I mean, things that shock them out of their little minds. I wonder how possible it would be to give them examples of situations that didn't end so well (I know, morbid) but then follow up with someone trained in some self defense tactics? We had someone come out & do the same in one of recent park days. I know some parents may balk, but maybe they could keep their kids from attending if they were so adamantly against it.
